The inner tribal warrior...

We'll since moving back home and starting a whole new life, or I won't say "whole" not everything changed. Mostly just my surroundings and my job title. I went from being a freelance designer/BLOGGER, to a project Co-ordinator for a small sewing project called Bavaria Fairtrade. I am working with 3 South-African workers, 2 female and one male, and then 3 ladies from Zimbabwe. Most of them are still learning and doing training, but they manage pretty well. One of the ladies from Zimbabwe has "papers" as they call it, to sew. She is basically my right hand, and the person to run to when something has to get done. Being thrown into a completely different setting, I was inspired by the different cultures that I am getting to work with daily. These people come from such different places and lifes that it was just an inspiration to get to know each of them... that is where the idea for my range emerged... Tribal influence... Also my travels to Mosambique and the beautiful fabric I brought back was such an inspiration as well. Let me just add that this job just consists of getting new orders for the sewing project and empowering these people to,in the end, set out into the world and find jobs.
I am also finding myself getting a bit lazy these past few weeks, my job as project co-ordinator gets done, but my personal work/ creativity is slowely falling behind. Thus inspired by the movie Julie Julia project, I am (if not interrupted by the bad weather that flows over the mountains tha past few days, it's summer in South-Africa, this means a week can consist of 40 degree ' days and rain/ hail all in one week) going to Blog everyday on the progress of my range. I am away from all my friends and the one I love, so this I suspect is the perfect time to do this. I am 24 and I was asked today by my father what my Light Castle is? At first I didnt know what he was talking about, then he explained; he asked what  my plans are for the future? Where do I see myself in a couple of years? What do I want to achieve in life? And I realised, I don't know! I had so many plans for myself, I saw myself as this great achiever and now I am clueless. So, this is for me, if I can get this range done and finish it before the end of the year, I believe the year 2012 will have great things in store for me. It is time I take charge of my life and DO THIS! My inspiration starts here....

Also an inspiration was the feature in Elle magazine's November 2011 issue( S.A), "Water for Elephants".  It absolutely caught my attention, and it was exactly what I am about!

For the fashion lovers;

Blake Lively

I found this vintage piece of fabric in my grandma's old pile of material, and it has this similar type of color pallette, I absolutely love this!

This dress is just so colourful and full of life! Love!

 Dis ongelooflik mooi!

My liefde vir teken... Ek moet begin tyd maak vir my kuns!

Pure cafe, Pretoria

One of my favourite places in Pretoria ( South- Africa) is a little cafe in Colbyn called Pure... The owners of the restaurant had a dream of opening their own restaurant and it finally happened. They started by renovating an old neglected corner cafe, and it has been up and running for 4 years already. The idea was to give their customers "honest, pure food" which I believe is the key to their success!

Pure specializes in Freshly made deli-style foods, that includes breakfast, lunch and Pretoria's best cuppachino's! Because the Pure crew take so much pride in their products and business, they roast their own coffee beans! They also have freshly baked products such as; Italian Ciabatta, Rey- bread and the most amazing cakes, every day!

Dishes include items like smoked salmon omelettes with avocado and lemon zest cream cheese, French toast with chopped almonds and maple-flavoured syrup, a salad with marinated biltong, avocado, parmesan shavings, pumpkin seeds and rocket, cheeky chicken livers, delicious wraps and pasta dishes like a creamy anchovy and broccoli pasta with a hint of garlic and chilli.

A personl favourite item on their menu is the Strawberry Fields Forever quencher! It is a strawberry, berry and mint smoothy, with a extra suprise at the bottom of every glass! That part I will leave to you to find out what it is!

Pure is really an amazing one-of-a-kind restaurant, which has much to offer to the taste buds!

oppikoppi

The first time I heard about Oppikoppi was in Highschool, and everyone promoted it to be the appefiny of Sodom and Gomora, everyone warned us about it, and said it was just for the druggies and dirty hippies... well, as my father told me on my 21st birthday, "Experience everything, and keep all the good things you experienced." So my first Oppikoppi was in 2009. We went with a broken tent, little food and a lot of alcohol. While I was in aahw with this mysterious place and all the ineresting and unique people I could'nt help to judge the people that warned me a little, because most of then never attended Oppi and they had no foot to stand on... even though there were some really dirty hippies, tripping on some kond of drug, the majority people were just like me. they were there for the music, the festival vibe and to have a good time with their friends...for a oppikoppi virgin I was hooked on the feeling of the youth coming together from all ove rthe country and just spending 4 days as a unit, all singing and dancing to the same songs, I had a sense of freedom and the bosveld fire's inspired me to attend the next year.. Oppikoppie, sexy crooked theeth. 2010. This year was one of my favourites... my 3 best friends were there and every day was filled with funny moments with weard  props and even wearder people. This year I was busy with my btech and I had to do research at Oppi. My most imspiiring ideas was born here. The youth went through a free stage in their fashion sense and the different style combinations would have blown any young designers mind! The 60's was the trend and every free person was embracing it! This year was very different to the others, in the sense that I felt liberated! I felt part of the Oppikoppi family and everything that it stood for. I believe Oppi has a huge impact on the youth and for only a couple of days, different genders, cultures, personalities, ages and  stereo-types come tohether en peace and celebrate the music as one! I salute the organisers of Oppikoppi for achieving what the government has been trying to do for so long! creating peace and unity amongst people in South-Africa!

My best friend....

It was maybe a month ago that one of my most dearest and best friends told me she is leaving South-Africa for 6 months to go work in South-Korea as an English teacher, at first I was devastated by the news... We have been friends for I think 4 years and now I just have to say goodbey... Well she left on Sunday 21 Aug 2011 and I will probably only see her in six months... we were living together and I had shared most of my first experiences of living in a flat with her. She is the most amazing person, I know that because I am not one of the easiest people to live with and living with her was a breeze. We became friends in our 2nd year at Varsity, I was in a Fashion Design major, and she did Drama and Acting. My best adventures as a student was shared with her. She became like a sister to me, and for a person that already has 3 sisters, it should be a compliment. I am going to go through a lot of changes the next couple of months, but the thing I am most afraid for is loosing that strong bond of friendship with my friend..I guess this is just the way life goes, and we all have to adapt. Whether this means that my life of a no-care student is over, I am pretty sure. But the strong bond off friendship and the feeling of freedom will last forever!
I will miss you my dearest friend...

Things that inspire me....

I went through a dry patch a while back, my inspiration motor was jammed up and I needed some creative ideas fast! I took some time off, and decided to go back to my roots, I went home for a week to Hoedspruit ( South-Africa). My wonderful friends who also lives on the farm in Hoedspruit near the river gave me back my inspiration.... the spirit on the farm is so intense you cannot help but be inspired by the Blyde river flowing so calmly at this time of year... well I came back with a fresh mind. So I dedicate this post to the things that inspire me...
